Semen retention has become very popular over the last few years. And for good reason.

It has many benefits.

But when guys first get into it they often hit me up and ask “Sean, what is the semen retention timeline? When will I feel the amazing results?!”

It’s a great question.

The semen retention timeline is different for everyone, but it does generally follow a predictable path. In this article I’ll break down that path so you will know exactly what to expect on your semen retention journey & when you will start feeling even more amazing than you do now.

Let’s get into it.

What is The Semen Retention Timeline

Before we jump into the semen retention timeline I want to talk real quick about the difference between the semen retention timeline and the nofap timeline.

Nofap is the act of not masturbating or watching porn, while semen retention is just about not ejaculating. With nofap, you can have sex and ejaculate and still be on course. So while they are similar, they are not exactly the same.

The benefits of nofap come mainly from abstaining from porn, and rebalancing your brain – while the benefits of semen retention come from building up sexual energy and transmuting it.

So the timelines differ.

So what is the semen retention timeline?

You won’t see this written anywhere else, but there are actually 2 semen retention timelines.

– 1 if you do it wrong

– & 1 if you do it right

Doing semen retention the wrong way looks like this:

You don’t ejaculate, but you don’t transmute the sexual energy.

The timeline is as follows:

Day 1-7: 

You start to feel the positive effects

Day 7-14:

You start to feel like you are going to explode

Agitation, frustration and possible sleeplessness.

Day 14-21:

You can’t resist the temptation & you binge on porn or ejaculate with your partner.

So what went wrong here?

Semen retention mistake #1:

The problem here is that you are retaining your semen & sexual energy but you are not transmuting it. It is just sitting in your lower chakra driving you crazy.

In order to do semen retention correctly, you need to know how to transmute sexual energy or turn your sexual energy into lifeforce energy. We have a course for that.

Otherwise you will just get so horny until the point where you eventually explode. Like a raging river building up behind a dam made of sticks, eventually you will give way.

Semen retention mistake #2:

Also another thing all these guys online get wrong is that they associate semen retention with avoiding all sexual stimulation. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

Semen retention DOES NOT equal abstinence.

The Taoist sex masters who have been doing semen retention as a modality for longevity and wellbeing for 1,000’s of years are quite clear about how sex is a huge part of the practice.

The whole point of this practice is to cultivate sexual energy, pull it up your spine and use it to feel amazing, create wealth and walk on water and shit.

Avoiding sex is not needed, or advantageous. That’s abstinence, a completely separate topic.

But somewhere along the line the two got mixed together.

Also, orgasm is not the same thing as ejaculation. With the right training, you can separate orgasm and ejaculation to not only enjoy sex, but also pull that energy up your spine and enjoy insanely powerful full body orgasms like nothing you’ve ever experienced before.

Now let’s look at the real semen retention timeline. When you do it right.

So let’s talk about the semen retention timeline when you do it right.

But know, that you must know how to transmute your sexual energy into lifeforce energy to experience the benefits I am about to share.

So.

Let’s assume you are doing everything right. You’re having lots of sex (but staying away from porn), creating lots of sexual energy and then you are transmuting that sexual energy into life force energy with the right exercises.

You’re semen retention timeline will look something like this:

Level 1: Days 0-7

The first week is the hardest, and most men don’t get past it.

The first time you have great sex with your wife or GF, and then try not to cum at the end will be insanely difficult. You will try to convince yourself of every reason why it’s a great idea, because well let’s be honest – it feels amazing.

If you are able to withhold your semen (well done sir), then the blue balls won’t be far away.

The first few times you have sex and don’t cum, the blue balls are intense. I won’t lie.

You just have to endure this, and after 1-2 times it will stop happening. The sexual transmutation exercises really help as well since all that energy is stuck there.

This week is when a lot of guys turn to porn. If you have a mild porn addiction (who doesn’t) then I recommend getting a porn blocker like Covenant Eyes to make it impossible to watch porn. Or else you will be going head to head with your urges for a week…and they usually win…

If you get to day 7 then the next twist comes.

Multiple studies have shown that after 7 days of not ejaculating you get a HUGE surge in testosterone levels.

Here’s the study and I quote:

“The authors found that the fluctuations of testosterone levels from the 2nd to 5th day of abstinence were minimal. On the 7th day of abstinence, however, a clear peak of serum testosterone appeared, reaching 145.7% of the baseline.”

That surge in testosterone is going to make you feel like an animal! But that may come with increased aggression, agitation & yes – increased horniness. So be very careful during this time because you’re going to want to rip every girls clothes off and have sex with anything that moves, for lack of better words.

Level 2: Day 8-21

Stage 2 of the semen retention timeline gets easier.

After a few days, your testosterone levels will come back down a bit and stabilize.

The blue balls should be gone, and you should start to get some flow going.

Some benefits you may feel are:

– Your energy levels will be high and smooth

– You won’t have to sleep as much

– You will have incredible focus and mental cognition as your dopamine levels will have balanced out a lot from not watching porn or ejaculating

– A healthy glow in your skin

– Increased endurance, both mental and physical

Level 3: Week 3+ – The Dreaded Flatline

Later in the semen retention timeline, after a few weeks away from porn and ejaculation, can often bring what people call a flatline.

There is no set time for this, but a lot of people feel it along the way.

The flatline is when you lose your sexual desire and just feel, well flat.

I hypothesize that this is due to the drop in dopamine from constant ejaculation, porn use and sexual binging. Porn floods your brain with dopamine, desensitizing your dopamine receptors causing them to down-regulate to come back to homeostasis.

When you quit porn or frequent masturbation, then your dopamine comes back down to normal levels – but the dopamine receptors are still down-regulated and have to adjust to the new normal.

This lag between when the dopamine stabilizes and how long it takes the dopamine receptors to up-regulate is what I believe to be the flatline often spoke about in the nofap and semen retention timelines. And it sucks.

You’re essentially running with not enough dopamine. Your motivation is gone, you aren’t horny at all, you feel depressed – BUT, it will pass.

And when it does, the magic happens.

Just keep going.

The flatline can last 1-2 weeks but it will end.

Your dopamine receptors will upregulate and this is a very, very good thing.

Level 4: Month 2+ – The Flatline is Over (Time for GOD Mode)

Alright, so the next stage of the semen retention timeline is when the flatline ends.

Then – the magic really starts to happen.

Now you’ll be experiencing the benefits of having all that sexual energy circulating throughout your body as I spoke about before.

PLUS

You’ll now get the benefits of restoring your dopamine sensitivity to normal levels.

After the flatline, your dopamine receptors will be up-regulated and now more sensitive to dopamine.

This means that the beautiful things in your life, like connection, sex, time with your family – the things that produce a dopamine response will be felt significantly more than they were before.

Because you are more sensitive to dopamine now.

– Sex will feel amazing

– You will have a deep sense of well being

– You will enjoy the little things in life much more

– You will be happier and more content

– You will be laser focused and extremely motivated

Stay in this stage of the semen retention timeline for as long as you want. But there is also a next level that you can move to if you wish.

Level 5: Day 90 and on

At this point in your semen retention journey, your brain will balanced and you can start to ejaculate once in a while while retaining all the benefits of semen retention, and without sliding back into old habits or in-balances.

Some people choose to retain their semen for years.

Some choose to ejaculate once a month. Other once a week. That is completely up to you.

The Taoist’s have some guidelines for ejaculation, based on age and other factors – where you can ejaculate in a certain frequency without it draining your vital life force energy too much.

From 1Vigor.com:

“One Tao theorist recommends ejaculation based upon the frequency of intercourse rather than day intervals with ejaculation only 2 or 3 times in 10.

The most respected of the Tao theorist, Sun Simiao, quoted above, recommends ejaculation no more than once every 20 days for men over 50 and no more than once every 100 days for men over 60.

Another Tao theorist suggests ejaculation frequency should be regulated according to the seasons with recommended ejaculations (i) during spring of no more than every 3 days, (ii) twice a month in summer and fall, and (iii) not at all during the cold of winter.

Another Tao theorist more recommends robust men may have more ejaculations than other men but recommends ejaculation control and restrained frequency for both.”

All in all, what matters is that this point in your semen retention timeline you choose to ejaculate in a frequency where you retain all the amazing benefits you feel.
