Nonetheless, a rested mind is capable of grabbing even the tiniest piece of information without a struggle. This is because the brain processes all the information it gets while we sleep, thus creating connections and learning opportunities.  This leaves you sharper than you were.

2) Improved Immune Response

Although you might not notice, a tired body and mind are more vulnerable to illnesses than a relaxed, healthy one.  Lack of sleep is known to have a negative impact on how the body responds to viruses and bacteria among other disease-causing microbes.

Any delayed action on some of these could be the reason your body cannot fight simple flu. A good night’s sleep gets rid of the worn-out feeling most people have in the morning, and also improves their immune response.

3) Boosts Your Mood

As mentioned earlier, the brain processes all the information that was captured or received while we sleep. This gives it time to organize the information for easier retrieval. If the process is disrupted due to sleeplessness or sleep interruptions, you are then more likely to wake up tired and moody.

This could be the reason most people appear depressed, or suffer from depression. Insomnia is also one of the leading causes of mood disorders, anxiety, and panic attacks. Getting enough sleep however lowers the risk of such conditions and elevates your mood as well.

4) A Healthier Heart

Most body processes slow down when you go to sleep. This includes the heart whose rhythm slows down a bit, giving it the rest; it needs to work perfectly. If the heart were to continue pumping blood over time, it then increases the risk of high blood pressure or even stroke. Getting at least 8 hours of rest gives it ample time to relax and rejuvenate.

5) Athletic Performance

If you participate in sports that require quick bursts of energy, lack of sleep might impact your performance in the field. This is particularly the case with weightlifters, wrestlers, and athletes. Your mind needs to be alert to make it possible to take on endurance sports comfortably without wasting any valuable time.

Lack of sleep not only robs you of energy and muscle repair but also drains any motivation you might have had. That said, you will have a tougher challenge to keep up with the required reaction times to make the best out of each opportunity in the field.
